Entries for the Bearbrook 10k road race next week have opened and the race for victory is expected to be wide open.
Last year’s race was won by Vale of Aylesbury Athletics Club star and Sri Lankan Olympian Anuradha Cooray in a course record-breaking time of 30mins 42secs.
However, he will be a notable absentee from this year’s entry list on August 12 as he will be representing his country in the London 2012 men’s marathon.
“We’ll miss Cooray as he’s a fantastic competitor and it’s a pleasure to watch him in action. But his absence means this year’s race will be wide open and hard fought,” said race director, Sandy Hodges.
“The entry is limited to 550 people so we’re urging competitors to get in early to avoid disappointment.”
Organised by Bearbrook Running Club, the Bearbrook 10k will start and finish at Aylesbury Running Club and the race gets underway at 9.30am.
This year’s race will be raising money for Bearbrook’s nominated charity, Scannappeal, to buy life-saving medical equipment that will be used at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Competitors can make a donation as part of their entry fee or on the day of the race. Entries cost £10 (affiliated) and £12 (non-affiliated).
