SOMEWHAT inevitably, the rain began at the start of the outdoor bowls season, and Waddesdon got off to their first wet but winning weekend.

Due to a waterlogged home green, Waddesdon transferred the Saturday fixture away to Chesham Bowls Club.

Over five mixed rinks, the game went to Waddesdon 97-84, and three rinks to two.

The strong Chesham club rarely concede defeat on their home green, so it was a feather in Waddesdon’s cap to take the honours.

Club vice captain Geoff Dixon led his troops well, and completed the task by also skipping the highest rink and pocketing the valuable pens, together with Bill Ody, Penny Ball and David Taylor.

Close behind came skip Mike Brooks with Joan Oxley, Ken Wheeler and Norman Clark. Waddesdon travelled to Wolverton Park on Sunday for the first ever fixture between the two clubs and had an enjoyable game.

Over the four mixed rinks, Waddesdon succeeded 63-46 and three rinks to one. The game was shortened by a cold but sharp rain storm, and players were glad to retire to the warmth of the clubhouse. Highest winning triple was skipped by Norman Clark, with Joan Oxley and David Taylor.
