RESIDENTS have been shocked by the discovery of a man’s body on Wednesday morning at The Spinney.
Police cordoned off an area near Bedgrove Park after the body was found by a member of the public by a footpath at around 6am.
Police described the incident off Ambleside as an ‘unexplained death’ but say it is ‘not believed to be suspicious’
The dead man’s next of kin have been informed. He is believed to have been in his 20s.
Sheila Simpson, whose house backs onto where the body was found, described it as a ‘terrible’ incident.
She said: “It’s shocking. This is a lovely area and normally very quiet.”
An inquest into what happened is expected to be opened by the middle of next week.
A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said the neighbourhood had been shaken by the news: “Everyone was saying there had been a murder and there are loads of police.
“It’s all quite scary.”
