Thame Hockey Club’s men’s first team suffered their biggest lost to date this week – 6-0 to high-flying Wycombe.
A depleted Thame side were missing several key players for the fixture and, after some dogged early resistance from the visitors, Wycombe soon broke the deadlock, and they went on to win easily.
The IIs enjoyed better fortunes as they battled to a 3-2 victory over Marlow to maintain their 100 per cent home record this season.
Early pressure culminated in the Thame opening goal through Clifford Brown, but the lead was short-lived as Marlow levelled.
Thame restored their lead at half-time through Martin Baxendell, before Alex Merrick set up Neil Rimmington for a third that was enough for victory despite a Marlow consolation.
Meanwhile, Thame ladies’ first team lost 3-1 to High Wycombe IIIs.
Wycombe broke the deadlock against the run of play and doubled their lead, but some neat passing by Lizzie Atkins and Rosie Corby resulted in a short corner from which Vikki Dawson converted.
A third Wycombe goal late on secured victory.
Elsewhere, Thame’s two U12 teams were in impressive form at the Hawks tournament.
Thame A finished third in their group after two narrow losses, a draw and two wins, including scoring five goals in their final game, while Thame B began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Bicester before victories over Hawks (C), Hawks (G) and Oxford meant they finished top of their group.
Oliver Rouse-Roberts scored all eight of Thame B’s goals.
