Thame United go into this weekend’s FA Vase clash against local rivals Chinnor in top form following back-to-back wins this week.
On Tuesday, Thame rose to sixth in the Hellenic Premier Division with a 3-1 win at Milton United, extending their winning run to four matches.
In a bad tempered first half, Milton’s Tom Austin fired a free-kick directly into the Thame goal to give the hosts an early advantage before, 10 minutes later, Luke Ricketts was fouled just outside the penalty area and Dan Jones put the subsequent free-kick past the Milton Goalkeeper to level the scores at one each.
Thame came out a different side in the second half and, with 10 minutes remaining, John Mulholland headed the visitors into the lead.
Just two minutes later, Thame captain Adam Morris converted a Ben Gray cross to wrap up all three points.
On Saturday, United scored a 97th minute penalty to snatch a dramatic 3-2 win in an action-packed encounter against Highworth Town.
A goalless first half made way for a breathless and frenetic second period as Highworth took the lead when Callum Parson netted from close range before Dan West curled a free-kick into the top corner to bring Thame level.
By now it was end-to-end with both sides going for the win. United edged in front on 84 minutes when substitute Shannon Jesson swivelled in the penalty area and poked the ball beyond Stevens, only for Town to reply through Sam Wadeih’s 90th minute header.
However, with 10 minutes of stoppage time added, there was still time for a late twist as Adam Morris was caught by a Highworth defender and a penalty was awarded. West kept his cool to dispatch the spot-kick and earn Unitedall three points in dramatic style.
This weekend, Thame host Chinnor in an eagerly-anticipated FA Vase clash at the ASM Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.
