A campaign to crack down on the use of fake IDs used to get into Aylesbury Vale pubs and clubs has been launched.
Posters will be displayed in schools, takeaways, off-licences and doctors surgeries in Aylesbury and Buckingham.
The district council and police, who are running the campaign, will also be aiming to reduce the sale of alcohol to under 18s at off-licences and supermarkets.
Councillor Pam Pearce, cabinet member for community matters, said: “Attempting to get into pubs or clubs with ID that you know includes false information, or belongs to someone else, is an offence.
“You will have it confiscated by the police and can be arrested and end up with a criminal record.
“This can have a lasting effect on a young person’s career and damage their future prospects.
“Not only that, children who drink are making themselves vulnerable to becoming involved in anti-social behaviour or becoming victims of crime themselves.
“This is why we take this matter so seriously and are aiming to educate young people about the dangers.”
The campaign will also remind people that if they buy alcohol for someone who is underage they are committing an offence.
Inspector Kelly Glister said: “We do not want to stop young people from having fun, but put across the consequences of illegal activity that can lead to a detrimental effect on the health and well-being of our young community.
“My team see far too many youngsters in uncontrollable drunken states that leave them vulnerable and at risk of harm.
“I hope this awareness campaign helps to raise the key points and encourages safe and responsible behaviour by all within Aylesbury Vale.”
