A new system that would see the time for small housing extensions to be decided on cut from eight weeks to two is to be consulted on.
The Local Development Order is designed to make it easier to extend most single, first floor and two storey extensions.
However, this will not apply in conservation areas, listed buildings and some other locations.
Aylesbury Vale District Council says the move will save money and allow it to concentrate on bigger projects.
Councillor Sue Polhill, cabinet member for planned development, design and conservation, said: “Part of the reason we’re in favour of the LDO is that it will speed things up.
“People have told us they’re frustrated by the planning process, which can take up to eight weeks for a simple application.
“In 90% of cases permission is granted anyway.
“The new changes should reduce the time taken to two weeks.
“Cutting the bureaucracy involved will save money and resources, enabling us to concentrate on larger and more complex applications.”
Homeowners would have to ensure guidelines are met and would need to tell neighbours about plans before going to the council.
People will be able to have their say through the {http://www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/|Aylesbury Vale District Council website|visit the AVDC website} from June 12 to August 8.
