An Aylesbury benefits cheat will have to pay back thousands of pounds she illegally claimed while doing part time work.

Maxine Crowe, of Prebendal Avenue, claimed nearly £3,000 in housing and council tax benefits and income support between June 2010 and April 2012 while working for a cleaning company.

Following an investigation, the 44 year old pleaded guilty at Aylesbury Magistrates’ Court to three charges of failing to declare changes in her circumstances regarding her employment that would affect her entitlement to benefits.

She was fined £450 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Authorities will also seek to get the overpaid benefits back from Crowe.

District Councillor Neil Blake, cabinet member for resources, said: “I cannot stress enough how important it is for people to let us know if there is any change in their circumstances so our officers can check to see if it may affect their benefit entitlement.

“People often remember to do so if their circumstances change for the worse but if they improve they need to tell us as well.

“Benefit fraud is a very serious crime and we will continue to prosecute those people guilty of it.”
