Aylesbury United boss Tony Joyce says his side will be pushing title rivals Dunstable every step of the way and ‘going for it’ in the cups ahead of Sunday’s FA Vase match against Kidlington.
United recorded another league win, 3-1 over Biggleswade last weekend before coming back from 3-2 down to win 6-3 against Sandhurst in the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy on Tuesday night.
The league win was not enough to lift Ducks back to the top of the Spartan South Midlands Premier as Dunstable won 3-0 at home to Hertford, but there is now a six-point gap between Tony Joyce’s second-placed side and fourth.
Focusing on the league shake-up, Joyce said his side must continue to concentrate on their own jobs and hope for fellow title rivals Dunstable and Oxhey Jets to slip up.
He said: “Both the Colney’s and Ampthill lost but Oxhey and Dunstable keep on winning.
“So we’re going to have to keep winning ourselves and hope one of them slips up, but they’re probably saying the same about us!
“We’re also going to go for it in all the cups, I’ll be choosing my strongest side possible, because last year we had a disappointing run in the cups.”
The Ducks will be favourites in the FA Vase match as Kidlington play their football in the Hellenic Premier Division, where they currently sit 14th in the table.
The match takes place at United’s Bell Close ground on Sunday at 3pm because landlords Leighton Town are in action at home on Saturday and take preference.
