Newly promoted Aylesbury firsts saw off the threat of Sonning to win 2-1 at Halton on Saturday.
After a humbling defeat to Slough the weekend before, Aylesbury knew that had to improve.
And that they did, creating a host of chances before finally taking the lead midway through the second half when good work by Mike Baker resulted in an easy tap-in for new boy Rory Twogood.
The same player made it 2-0 soon after with another tap-in and the home defence was severely tested for the remainder of the half as Sonning pulled one back.
Man of the match Chandler, along with Matt Kiely, Mark Ferguson, Mike Baker and keeper Stephen Best held firm to give Ay’s a deserved three points.
The firsts travel to Eastcote on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the seconds played the same opposition and found themselves 3-0 down before Austin Greenlee and Dave How (3-2) made a game of it, but could not quite force a draw.
The thirds were disappointingly crushed by a newly promoted Marlow team 6-0 while the club’s ladies team also lost, 5-2 at home to Maidenhead seconds. Aylesbury showed moments of brilliance, wit hEvie Plum the star, but the final score was harsh after what was a solid performance by all.
