Two men are taking on the challenge of cycling over a pair of mountains on a tandem for breast cancer.
Adam Rossiter and Ben Howlett, both aged 31, are completing the ride for cancer charity Coppafeel which helped their friend fight for a breast cancer diagnosis when she was just 26.
Jenny Steele, 29, of Thame, visited her GP twice after noticing a lump in her breast. Both times, however, she was told that because of her age, it was nothing to worry about and that it was likely to be related to hormones.
But after reading a story about the founder of Coppafeel, Kris Hallenga, who was diagnosed with the disease at 23, Jenny returned to the doctors with the article and demanded hospital tests. Two weeks later she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Jenny said: “When I went to the hospital the consultant said to me ‘you’ve shocked the life out of us – we’ve all learned a lesson from you’.”
Jenny then had surgery to remove the lump and the surrounding lymphnodes to prevent the cancer spreading. She then underwent six months of chemotherapy and a month of radiotherapy.
She is now in her second year of a five-year program of post breast cancer drugs.
