Sam Baldock has left West Ham for Bristol City in a deal described as a ‘major coup’ by the Championship club.

Aylesbury-born Baldock, who still has family in the town, spent just one season at the Boleyn Ground having moved to East London in a £2million deal last autumn.

Despite scoring more goals than any other Hammers striker during pre-season, the 23-year-old former MK Dons man was deemed surplus to requirements by Sam Allardyce.

Baldock scored five times in his first nine appearances for the Hammers in their promotion season last year having joined in September.

Injury curtailed his good form, though, and he struggled to make an impact on his return.
