It is called the Poems And Ramblings Of Khulu Chris and has been hailed as a ‘moving volume on life, love and the many things that happen in between’.
But for its Aylesbury-born author Chris Mandley, who left school at 15 with no qualifications, the book is simply about breaking free from a working class stereotype.
The 57 year old said: “I just hope people will get inspiration from it.”
The book follows Chris’s life and the many jobs that he has undertaken, from being a soldier to a mechanic and a window cleaner.
He jokes that he is ‘still broke’ despite working all these years.
Then everything changes when he turns 43 and meets the love of his life Ndebele from Africa, who in Chris’ words helps to ‘unchain and free him’.
Through poetry, or as Chris puts it ‘ramblings’, he records his ‘efforts to leave his mark on the world’.
