After an excellent break-through season, in which he was awarded the Wasps Young Player of the Year accolade, rising rugby star Sam Jones is hungry for more.

The former Aylesbury Grammar School pupil admits the fight for a place in the side will be tough with Wasps signing the likes of James Haskell this summer.

But Jones, who cut his teeth at Chinnor Rugby Club in Thame as a youth player, is confident his versatility – he can play six, seven or eight – will help him get Premiership game time.

“Obviously I had a very good breakthrough year last season, but I know we’ve got a lot of strength coming in, and players from the international scene,” Jones told Wasps’ official website.

“I’ve just got to stay fit and be ready to play as much as possible.

“Playing at eight is my favourite, as I get to carry the ball more, but I also enjoy playing at seven as well,” he added.
