Around 500 runners are expected to contest Bearbrook Running Club’s annual 10K road race on Sunday morning.
The event, which starts and finishes at Aylesbury Rugby Club in Weston Turville, is regarded one of the region’s best road races and attracts runners from across the UK.
With course record holder Anuradha Cooray representing Sri Lanka at the Olympics on the same day (see back page), the race for victory is expected to be hotly contested.
Vale of Aylesbury runner Charlie May is expected to be a strong challenger in the men’s field, while former winner Samantha Amend should set the pace in the women’s category.
Bearbrook expect to have a limited number of entries available on the day of the race that starts at 9.30am.
The cost of an unaffiliated entry will be £14, while an affiliated entry will be £12. Competitors can secure an entry at www.runnersworld.co.uk until midnight on Thursday.
Race director Sandy Hodges is urging motorists along the route in Weston Turville, Wendover and Halton to be aware of runners if they are making a journey on Sunday morning.
She said: “We’ll have marshalls from the moment the race gets under way until the final competitor has finished.”
