Despite taking the lead through Steve Hatch, United were beaten 2-1 in their penultimate pre-season friendly at the weekend.
Hatch converted from Michael Kilpa’s corner kick with just four minutes on the lead and United had their eyes on a second friendly win over Leighton in two years.
But Town, under the management of Craig Wells for his first full season, were the superior team and hit back in the second half, former Duck Enzo Silvestri getting the winner.
Tony Joyce’s side travel to New Bradwell St Peter on Tuesday night for their final pre-season match before the season gets under way on Saturday with an FA Cup tie against Enfield 1893.
