Team GB footballer Ellen White has a realistic hope of an Olympic medal after helping her side reach the quarter-finals.
The Arsenal and England striker, a multiple Bucks Herald Sports Personality award winner, featured as a sub in all three victories over New Zealand, Cameroon and Brazil.
Despite not starting the former Grange school student will be champing at the bit to play when GB face Canada in the quarter-finals on Friday evening.
The striker has been enjoying every minute of her time at the Games and has met superstars such as David Beckham along the way.
And she admits she sometimes has to pinch herself to ‘make sure it’s all real’.
“This experience just keeps getting better,” she said on Twitter.
“Walking back from the TeamGB safehouse and bump into Zara Phillips, such a lovely person. The Olympic Village is so surreal, there’s so many people, I can’t believe we are part of this, am I dreaming?”
Meanwhile, two of the Vale’s other Olympians have bowed out of the Games as swimmer Craig Gibbons and standby judoka Lewis Keeble were eliminated.
Maxwell swimmer Gibbons could not upset the odds on Sunday morning as Team GB failed to get past the heats in the 4x100m freestyle.
Gibbons brought the team home in 3mins 17.08secs – three seconds slower than eventual champions France, who went on to beat the likes of USA and Australia on Sunday night.
But he said: “I’m proud of every member of our team we gave it everything we had.i will never forget today. That was the best experience of my life! I loved every second.”
RAF gunner Keeble was understudy to GB’s Colin Oates who finished seventh.
