Great Britain’s women’s football team, which features Aylesbury’s very own Ellen White, will play their final Olympic warm-up match against Sweden on Friday afternoon.
Arsenal and England striker White is expected to get her last taste of action before the main event next Wednesday against New Zealand at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.
Matches against Cameroon, also at the Millenium, and Brazil at Wembley follow on July 28 and 31 respectively in what is a tough draw for Hope Powell’s side.
And White goes into the games with a motivational speech from Olympic legend Dame Kelly Holmes ringing in her and her teammates’ ears.
“Kelly came to speak to us and put her take on it about what it actually means to be an Olympian,” coach Powell told a packed Team GB press conference.
“It really hit home with the girls, about embracing this one-team ethos.
“If you’ve never experienced an Olympic village, it’s fantastic. As one team you sit, eat and chat together from all different sports, and it is about Team GB doing well.
“We want to do well as footballers, but also as part of that whole team concept, which is great.”
White has been taking to social networking site Twitter to keep fans updated on the pre-Olympic preparations and says she is ‘buzzing and excited’ about taking part.
“This is crazy,” she said.
“It would be great to get as much support down for Team GB as possible on Friday for the matches (it is a double header with the Men’s GB team).”
