Double is on as five star Aston seal league win

ASTON Clinton clinched the SSML Division Two title when they beat Pitstone 5-1 while challengers Risborough Rangers were held to a draw.

Needing Risborough to drop points, Aston knew they needed the win that would edge them closer to the league crown.

With Neil Roberts pushing on a little more from midfield, he won himself a penalty after being brought down in the box, and he duly stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-0.

Aston were looking to push on and they did just that, Sam Ward heading home to make it 2-0.

During a rare counter attack, Pitstone pulled a goal back which they deserved with the way they played and kept the ball.

This only served to wake Aston up and just before half-time a scramble in the box involving Anthony Kew and two Pitstone players saw the ball drop to Pete Weirch who made no mistake to make it 3-1.

Despite a sluggish start to the second half they made it 4-1 when a long kick from the keeper was not dealt with at the back and Ward set up Tom Brindley to finish into the bottom corner.

The favour was then returned with the fifth goal when a cross from Brindley was met by the onrushing Ward to complete the scoring.

With many frantic phone calls at full-time it was announced that Risborough had drawn which meant Aston were champions.

The club now have the chance to make it a double when they take on Totternhoe in the Divison Two Cup on May 1 at Berkhamstead FC.
