CONTROVERSIAL plans to build nearly 2,500 new homes to the east of Aylesbury have been recommended for the green light ahead of a crunch meeting on Wednesday.
Plans for Broughton Crossing include 2,450 homes, a neighbourhood centre, two primary schools, as well as the partial construction of an eastern link road and the rural section of a Stocklake link road.
The application, also including 10ha of employment land, an expanded electricity sub station and community facilities, is set to be decided by politicians at Aylesbury Vale District Council.
Bierton and Broughton Parish Council has objected, claiming the application would lead to a ‘loss of identity’ for both villages, and would cause more traffic misery in Bierton and Aylesbury.
Aylesbury Town Council has also objected, branding the bid ‘premature and speculative’.
The site sites to the east of Oakfield Road, and the west of Aylesbury Golf Centre, south of Bierton.
A report by planning officer Hayley Jeffery has recommended the bid, by BDQ Trading Ltd and Ashfield Land Ltd, is supported, subject to legal agreements.
The report states: “Whilst the proposal is in principle not in accordance with AVDLP (Aylesbury Vale District Local Plan) because the site is not allocated, the significant benefits of the development, taken together with the relatively limited adverse effects and consistency with more recent government advice are considered to outweigh that conflict with the development plan.”
AVDC’s strategic development control committee will weigh up the ‘urban extension’ on Wednesday.
