An annual 24 hour relay where teams don fancy dress and have at least one member always moving around the track is set to take place over the first weekend of July.

Relay for Life honours those who have lost their lives to cancer, celebrates the lives of survivors and raises money to hel fund ground breaking cancer research.

It is also a fun event for all the teams who take part, with on site stalls, music, food, and a children’s entertainer.

The most poignant moment of the 24 hour relay is during the night when a moving Candle of Hope ceremony is held, then walkers continue to lap the candlelit track throughout the night, many wearing onesies or pyjamas.

The 2015 fundraising target is £95,000 and already 23 teams have signed up for the Aylesbury relay, with 134 members and 11 cancer survivors.

Chairman of Relay for Life Aylesbury Paul Kirby said the event, now in its seventh year, keeps on growing.

“Last year we had 32 teams, more than 500 relayers and 52 survivors taking part, so to already have 23 teams signed up for this year is simply incredible.”

Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for Cancer Research UK.

This year’s event was recently launched in Friars Square when more than £380 was raised towards this year’s total. The relay will start at 12 noon on Saturday July 4 for 24 hours, and will again be held at Aylesbury Rugby Club in Weston Turville.
