In the time before the internet, libraries were place of quiet for people using the reference section or choosing books.
As your correspondent said last week, they have had to diversify, but I think Dr Mugwort OBE’s point was that when children are in a shared space, their parents/ minders don’t ensure they are not a nuisance to others. It’s the same on buses or in a restaurant, the adults are usually too busy on their iPhones and tablets to keep them from annoying other people. Also, I think Dr Mugwort OBE said he was using Thame Library as he’d recently moved to the area and it was his local library.
