Green-fingered allotment owners sold tea and cakes to help local school children get stuck in with gardening.
Members of Stones Close Allotments Society handed over the cheque for £100 to youngsters from St Joseph’s Primary School in Thame during a morning assembly.
The cash will be used for the school’s continuing gardening project after pupils wanted a garden to grow fruits and vegetables in.
Children from Year 6 have already set about arranging the plant containers into the shape of a snail, and this has produced a bounty of tomatoes and courgettes.
When the society became aware of the venture three years ago, they wanted to encourage children to ‘grow their own’ and have been fundraising for all schools in the town ever since.
Society chairman Kate White said: “The money will assist in setting up more raised beds for growing, a nature area and a membrane to reduce the weeds.”
