Crimestoppers has announced it has received a record number of calls in the Thames Valley over the past 12 months.
Figures released by the charity show they had a record 3,521 calls across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire last year – almost 10 a day.
The figures also show a 14 per cent increase in the number of pieces of information passed onto Thames Valley Police.
Through this information more than four people were arrested and charged every week.
The charity celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013, and this increase highlights a growing awareness of Crimestoppers and its work in local communities, while also showing the significant role the public plays in the fight against crime.
Campaigns to target crime areas such as burglary, drugs, rural crime, illegal tobacco and human trafficking have seen a positive response from the community and resulted in a number of individuals being brought to justice, according to the charity.
The majority of the campaigns are run by volunteers, with over 600 working for the charity.
Across the UK, information passed onto the police by Crimestoppers increased by one per cent, whilst the value of goods recovered also rose, with over £3.3million worth being seized.
Since Crimestoppers was formed in 1988, over 128,000 people have been arrested and charged, while 1.5 million pieces of information have been passed onto law enforcement agencies.
