The retail arm of Rennie Grove Hospice Care made more than £185,000 a month in the latter part of 2013, it has been announced.

Rennie Grove’s 19 shops – and other retail initiatives such as its ebay store, specialist wedding service and recycling – are proving more successful than ever. Figures confirmed at the start of 2014, covering the last quarter of 2013, show that retail income for Rennie Grove averaged over £185,000 per month from October to December.

Director of retail and trading, Lesley Blencowe, said “We hit an all-time high in October, with income that month topping £200,000 for the first time ever. Our monthly takings have almost doubled in the last 12 months and that’s testament to the dedication of our workforce – both paid and voluntary.

“We know for a fact that our 45.5% profit margin is one of the highest in the country for hospice charity shops and that’s down to the hard work of almost 1,000 volunteers who help us in every aspect of what we do.

“We’re also very fortunate to receive regular donations of good quality items to sell – 620 bags of donated clothes, shoes, accessories and ornaments on average every day.”

The retail team is tasked with raising £2 million by the end of March and thanks to the surge at the end of 2013 is on target to do so.

Lesley added: “Our cumulative total stands at around £1,630,000 to date.

“Please help us make the next three months as successful as the last three so that we can fund more than six nurses for the next 12 months – or an equivalent 10,000 hours of specialist nursing care for local patients.”
