Bosses at the Mandeville School have said it is ‘extremely disappointing’ it has been placed in special measures - but claim changes being put in place will make a positive difference.

Geralyn Wilson was appointed interim headteacher in September after the departure of Peter Patchett and said that in the past two months the school has taken action to improve teaching, learning and student results.
Mrs Wilson said: “Initiatives like these take time to bed in and while they’re already having a very positive effect we’ll be better able to measure the benefits as we work through the coming year.
“Although we understand that nationally many schools are falling victim to Ofsted’s tougher inspection regime, we respect the role they have to play in monitoring school standards.
“I am pleased to have led this great school since September and I am confident that the plans are sufficiently ambitious and robust to secure the improvements.
“Our dedicated staff and I will continue to work with all members of our community to ensure the rapid transfer of our school from this current judgement.”
Chair of governors Joanne Burgess said the governing body fully supports the school.
Mrs Burgess said: “We have every confidence in the head teacher, staff and students to bring about required changes for greater successes in both the exam results and the overall experience for the young people in our community.”
