Chinnor Rugby Club have continued their good start to the new SSE National League Divison Two South season with a second successive league win.
Following their hard-fought 9-3 win on the road at Exmouth on the opening day, the Oxfordshire side recorded a far more comfortable success in their first home league fixture last weekend when they beat Dings Crusaders 42-17.
Tristan Corpe was the stand-out performer scoring four tries, while brothers Sam and George Blewitt, playing together for the first time both also got on to the scoresheet.
Joint head coach Matt Goode said the victory was extra special as it coincided with the club’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
He said: “I was very pleased with the way we played. The boys showed great intensity from the start and we really set the tone of the game.
“They beat us twice last year so I knew that a fast start was the key for us. We got that and once we got ahead we never looked back.”
Goode singled out man-of-the-match Corpe for special praise saying: “I am very pleased with the variety of tries that he scored.
“Two of them were great team moves which he finished off and the other two were superb individual efforts which gave him a chance to utilise the real pace he has.
“I would also like to mention the Blewitt brothers. They are a great credit to their family and also to the club, as they have come right through the ranks. The fact that they both scored in the same game was a real bonus.”
The result lifts Chinnor to third place in the table, and ahead of their next match, away to tenth place Shelford on Saturday, Goode said things were looking up for the club.
He said: “We are really looking forward to the Shelford game. We are going into it on the back of three wins in a row so we have momentum.
“Again the key for us is to start confidently and assert ourselves on the game early on. Then our target is to maintain that intensity for the full 80 minutes.”
Chinnor’s next home game is on Saturday September 28 against Redruth (kick-off 3pm).
