Aylesbury set for a wider Range?

A new home and garden furnishing retail chain could open in Aylesbury’s Broadfields Retal Park.

The Range, owned by CDS Superstores, has put in a planning application to install a mezzanine level in two units at the retail park.

These include unit 6, formerly used by furniture group MFI , and unit 7 which is currently occupied by Halfords.

It is unclear whether Halfords would continue trading or close as a result of the plans.

The firm’s media office was unavailable for comment but said there would be further information available in two to three weeks time.

CDS has secured a 10-year lease to occupy the premises and its application includes installing an ancillary cafe as part of the development.

The cafe would form part of the store and not trade independently.

Aylesbury Town Council has expressed concerns over safety for pedestrians with people moving large building items from the store into their cars parked outside The Range.

A deadline of September 18 has been set for making a decision on the application.

The potential arrival of the store would be the latest addition to Broadfields Retail Park.

A new Harvester restaurant is currently being refurbished ahead of opening in September while PC World and Currys have moved into a single unit together.
