Threatened pool is re-opened for trial

The at-risk Wendover swimming pool has been re-opened for a trial period.

The Wendover Swimming Association is paying for repairs to the boilers and will use the summer to test how much demand there is for the pool.

If the trial is a success the association will work with the John Colet School, where the pool is based, to take over the facility at the end of the year. However, if the trial is not successful it is likely the pool will close permanently.

The pool’s future has been in doubt since the withdrawal of a county council subsidy, with repair and running costs making its continued existence unlikely.

The association needs volunteers who can help run swimming sessions, manage the pool, prepare a business plan, obtain funding and negotiate agreements.
