John Howell is to stand for re-election as Thame’s MP at the 2015 general election.

The South Oxfordshire Conservative Association voted to keep Mr Howell as the party’s candidate for the seat at a meeting last week.

The MP has represented the area since 2008, when he replaced Boris Johnson.

Mr Howell said: “I am pleased to have been readopted and thank the executive council for their support and encouragement.

“There is much work to do and knowing that I have the association alongside me is important as we move forward.”

If a sitting Member of Parliament wants to stand again, party rules require them to be re-adopted by the executive council of the association.

The council is made up of party members representing the associations branches in the constituency.

Members are elected annually within their branch for this task.

Mike Moody, South Oxfordshire Conservative Association chairman, said: “I am delighted that John has been readopted.

“He is a good and hard working MP.

“He has proved his capability here and in Westminster and we look forward to continue working with him into the future.

“In these turbulent political times we take nothing for granted.

“Some people say that the Henley constituency is a safe seat but we assume nothing and work hard for every vote.

“Although we are in a coalition our party has been able to make good progress and we are slowly beginning to see the benefits of tough decisions.”
