Chris Shead has been appointed as the new assistant chief constable in charge of operations.
He takes over from John Campbell, who will now be assistant chief constable for crime and counter terrorism.
Mr Shead said: “I am delighted to be taking over as ACC operations and I look forward to tackling this new role.
“I have greatly enjoyed working in various roles at Thames Valley Police since 2006, all of which I am sure will stand me in good stead for the challenges ahead.”
Mr Shead joined Thames Valley Police in 2006, having previously worked for the Metropolitan Police and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Since 2011 he has been the chief superintendant heading up the joint operations unit for the Thames Valley and Hampshire.
Mr Shead has also previously been the commander for West Berkshire, Slough and the former basic command unit in Berkshire West.
