A husband and wife team who travelled extensively through India last year on their honeymoon have returned home to launch a new business.
Rajshree Haines-Patel and husband Toby spent four months travelling hundreds of miles across the continent discovering local ‘treasures’.
Now the couple from Monks Risborough have launched a new website www.littleindiaboutique.co.uk selling a range of beautiful and vibrant soft home furnishing and accessories they sourced on their travels throughout the continent.
Rajshree said: “Little India Boutique was born out of our love for India and the beautiful treasures that are produced across the country.
“My husband and I have travelled extensively throughout India meeting directly with artisans and suppliers in order to find unique and exciting products.
“As a British born Indian and having travelled many times to India before, I’ve always wanted to share and showcase some of the traditional and unique handicrafts of India here.”
Little India Boutique offers a range of colourful products including: vintage kantha throws, hand block and screen printed quilts, cushions and little treasures to make people smile.
Former recruitment consultant Toby said: “We travelled for four months arriving first in New Delhi before travelling through Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Many of the products we offer were sourced in these regions. We then travelled south to Kerala before travelling by train up the coast through Goa and eventually onto Mumbai.
“We wanted to start a small business selling Indian home furnishing, as we had been inspired from previous trips to the country by the beautiful materials, colours and the diversity of the culture through the different states.
“Many of the states are known for particular craftwork. For example the sea green cushions and the red multi-coloured cushions are made from Chanderi Silk. This is a mix of cotton and silk and the material was sourced from a weaving family we met in Uttar Pradesh. The Chanderi Silk was then sent to an artist who is based in Southern India to make into cushions.”
