Aylesbury Aces wheelchair basketball team have made it to the finals of the prestigious Lord Taverners tournament, which takes place this weekend.

The Aces will take centre stage at The Lord’s Taverners Junior League Finals on Saturday where both their Under 19 and Under 15 teams will join the other top seven teams in the quest to be crowned the 2012/13 champions.

After the Under 15s and Under 19s battled their way to second and third, respectively, in the Sotuh Division to ensure the team a highly coveted spots in the finals, the Under 15s will open their campaign against Wakefield Whirlwinds, while the Under 19s will take on Sheffield Steelers at All Saints College Sports Centre, Sheffield.

British Wheelchair Basketball CEO Charlie Bethel said: “The Lord’s Taverners Junior League continues to provide our younger athletes with a fantastic competitive event, enabling them to build further upon their skills and talent.

“Once again the level of play in this year’s competition has been fantastic and, as we continue to drive forward from London 2012, I’m sure amongst these players we have some future Paralympians. Aces have done a fabulous job to make it to the Finals and I wish them all the very best of luck for the day.”

Junior Aces Wheelchair Basketball Club manager, Caroline Strange said: “The coaches and I are really proud of the hard work and effort all the Under 19s and Under 15s players have put in this season to progress to the finals of the Junior League.

“It is a great achievement to have teams in both age groups.

“We are looking as teams to now play to the best of our ability and really enjoy what should be a great day of wheelchair basketball.

“We would also like to thank the local charity ‘Kids in Sport’ which gives the club such a tremendous amount of support.”
