Paper and cardboard recycling banks in Aylesbury Vale are to be removed following the roll-out of the new home waste collection scheme.
The banks, which cost more than £150,000 a year to manage, were introduced before residents could access full recycling services from home.
Since the new recycling and waste service was introduced last year, Aylesbury Vale District Council says people have been using the banks much less and the materials left at the them are now only a small percentage of those collected across the district.
The council is also reviewing its glass recycling banks due to the reduction in tonnage and the cost of collection.
Councillor Sir Beville Stanier, cabinet member for environment and health, said: “The cost of maintaining the containers now far outweighs the benefits of the banks due to the small amounts of recycling that they produce.
“For this reason some recycling banks will now be withdrawn.”
Among the recycling banks to be closed in Aylesbury are those at the Bedgrove Community Centre, the Tring Road Tesco, the Greyhound Pub, B&Q and Morrisons.
Banks at Haddenham Garden Centre, Quainton Railway Centre, Stoke Mandeville Community Centre and Wendover’s Wyevale Garden Centre are also among those to be closed in the coming weeks.
Anyone with excess paper and cardboard for recycling can put it in clear bags by the side of their blue lidded recycling bin.
