TV star Nicholas Parsons gives theatre money boost

Television star Nicholas Parsons OBE showed his passion for local theatre by helping raise £1,500 to aid Thame Players.

The game show host spoke at a charity evening at The Thatch Pub on Tuesday to help raise funds for the continued development of the Thame Players Theatre.

Thatch manager Frazer Sutherland said that Parsons spoke about the importance of having a theatre and told a few anecdotes.

He said: “He’s been in Thame before and done a couple of shows and some book signings.

“He’s quite a theatre-goer so he supports local theatre like this.”

Mr Sutherland said the night was a sell-out with 50 people in attendance and an auction also held.

He added: “It’s important for Thame to have a theatre. It’s a vibrant town.

“It’s about maintaining things and keeping things like the theatre.

“We do one or two charity dinners a year to help Thame.

“It’s good for the pub, too. A lot of people come here for a pre-theatre dinner.”

The guests were served a three course special meal from Thatch head chef Tom Upham but the manager said it was a casual evening.

“It was supposed to be an informal evening,” said Mr Sutherland.

“It was one of those late ones, it was a good crowd of people.

“It was good to do it in the pub, it had a really good atmosphere.”
