Super Simpson strike seals three points for FC

Sometimes a manager has to do it all and so with no back up keeper Aylesbury FC’s boss donned the gloves to help keep a clean sheet in an impressive 1-0 win at Guildford City on Wednesday night .

Player-manager Craig Faulconbridge spent his best playing days as a striker and has recently lined up in defence for the Moles.

But at Guildford he got his chance between the sticks after regular keeper Simeon Charles was injured and took it with both hands.

Despite not playing in two weeks due to postponements and an abandonment FC more than held their own in the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central match as Lamar Simpson grabbed the vital strike in the second half.

In a game of few chances FC carved out the better opportunities with James Faulkner going agonisingly close when his shot rocketed off a post. But it was Simpson who was the hero with a well taken strike before FC dug deep to hold out.

A solid display at the back meant the boss had few saves to make and the win now leaves FC in 15th.

They are now only a point behind Uxbridge and have several games in hand on their rivals above them.

FC host Fleet Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
