Tring Athletic’s poor form against relegation battlers continued with a 2-0 defeat at Hertford in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.
Tring were left to rue their poor defending at set pieces with killer goals for Hertford either side of half-time on Saturday.
First Karden Campbell escaped his marker to nod home before the break.
Mitchell Palmer entered the fray at half-time for the home side and quickly began putting in teasing balls.
Lewis Donovan was the first to profit when he managed to head in one free-kick.
Young striker Jack Sunderland had a few chances saved but could not grab a consolation.
In more promising news Athletic reached the Dudley Latham Memorial Cup semi final after winning on penalties at Haringey Borough.
Sutherland and Martin Skinner grabbed the goals to put Tring 2-1 up with just minutes left and set up a meeting with Hadley.
But they were dealt a sucker punch when Borough grabbed a late equaliser to force extra time.
With no winner coming in the extra 30 minutes Andy Hughes scored what would prove to be Tring’s winner in the shoot-out. At the time of going to press and weather permitting Tring were due to play Harefield United on Saturday (kick-off 7.45pm).
