Time is running out to get your tax paid for you

TIME is running out for residents to register for the chance to have a council tax-free year.

South Oxfordshire District Council is offering to pay one person’s council tax bill for the year as part of a push to get people signed up online.

To enter the draw, council tax payers need to sign up to receive their bills by email by Tuesday January, 31.

The lucky taxpayer will be drawn randomly from the mailing list.

It costs more than £64,000 each year for the combined South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils to send out tax bills and leaflets.

In an attempt to cut these costs, the two councils are aiming to get as many people as possible signed up to receive their bill via email.

One winner will be chosen from each district.

Councillor David Dodds, cabinet member for finance at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This is a fantastic chance for a council tax payer to win the opportunity to have their entire 2012/13 bill paid for them.

“We are very keen to reduce the amount of money we spend each year on printing and postage, so hopefully anyone who hasn’t already done so should sign up.” When people sign up it saves money through the reduced need for paper, printing and postage.
