After the winter snap Chinnor are hopeful of being back in action at league leaders Worthing on Saturday.

Coach Jason Bowers said he cannot wait to get back to prowling the touchline in the SSE National League 2 South match particularly after a shock 36-24 loss to relegation battlers Barking in their last match.

He said; “It’s been a long time since Barking (January 12). It’s slightly strange because we are going from facing a side struggling in Barking to a team like Worthing who are challenging for the title.”

The coach admitted he had an ‘Alex Ferguson moment’ with his team at half-time in the Barking match and said very few of his players did themselves proud.

But the boss said just as the Essex side upset the odds he is hopeful of his own team doing so at Worthing.

He added: “They are up the top of the league for a reason.

“But just as we would be expected to win at Barking, they would be expected to win this.

“But rugby’s a funny old game sometimes.”

Despite exceeded expectations this season and lying in seventh Bowers said it was vital they improved their precision and performance ahead of three successive home games.

The coach said: “The last thing we want to do is get a lesson at Worthing and then have to come back and put extra pressure on ourselves at home.

“We have to look to not let ourselves down in any way. We have to go there and play to the best of our abilities.

“The performance is what’s important. We need to play well and get some shape back into our game. If we deserve to win then we will.”

Kingsey Road has become fortress for Chinnor this season with six wins out of seven including a 36-21 victory over Worthing and Bowers is keen to see his side fly out of the blocks as they did in the reverse fixture.

He added: “We played well against them at home so we are looking forward to it.

“We tend to raise our game for the bigger teams. So we hope that will have the right effect at the weekend.”

Without a match for two weeks and with difficult conditions at Kingsey Road Bowers said Chinnor had kept fit and done some indoor training at Ashfold School.

He added: “We have been able to keep on top of our fitness levels regardless of the winter weather.

Weather permitting Chinnor travel to Worthing on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).
