Bitterly cold, windy and wet underfoot just about covers conditions at Saturday’s Chiltern League Cross Country race at Wigmore Park, Luton.
Vale of Aylesbury’s senior and veteran men’s squads were missing a few key individuals, but those on the park ran extremely well.
Rob Taylor was first Vale man home in 30th place in 32:45 closely followed by Tim Jones (40 th in 33:47) and Sean Wilson (49th in 34:18). Tim was also the first V50 to finish the race.
For the ladies, Sophie Delderfield had a great race finishing 10 th in 24:33 with Julia Austin in 13th place. Her time of 25:08 made her first V45 lady to finish. Charlotte Steptoe was also in action, finishing 24th in 26:25. The ladies team on the day finished third overall and the vet ladies were second – they are also second in the division so far with just one race left in Wing at the beginning of February.
The U17 men were happy too. Fresh from winning the Oxfordshire County Championships last weekend, Christian von Eitzen ran a strong race to finish second in 20:43 with Patch Taylor hot on his heels in third, just three seconds behind. Josh Gavigan made up the team putting Vale’s U17 men third on the day and third in the division. The only lady in the U17 age group was Abbie Winterburn getting back into racing after several injuries, and finishing in 14th spot.
