Aylesbury FC’s hopes of a giant killing were dashed after MK Dons ran out comfortable 4-0 winners in the Berks & Bucks Cup second round.

Craig Faulconbridge’s side put up a spirited fight at Haywood Way and were the first to carve out an opportunity when Stoke City loan star Matarr Touray smart flick was saved.

The Dons, led by player-manager Alan Smith and coached from the sidelines by Arsenal legend Ian Wright for the evening, struggled to get to grips with the heavy pitch and conditions.

However, they took a sudden lead after Moles keeper Simeon Charles’ unfortunate miskick led to Daniel Powell nicking the ball and dispatching with ease.

FC held tight until half-time but with conditions worsening and energy starting to wane MK doubled their lead straight after the break.

Faulconbridge, who lined up for the side, refused to let heads drop though and Sonny French went agonisingly close to grabbing a famous strike when his 25 yard effort whistled past the post.

With time ticking away Brian Haule squandered a wonderful chance to begin a comeback from the penalty spot. The striker’s effort went wildly wide.

Any chance of a famous night was fully extinguished when England under-16 international Giorgio Rasulo grabbed a late double to add gloss to the scoreline.

The fixture had previously been postponed from last week due to the freezing weather and there had been fears the game would have to be held in Milton Keynes.
