An Aylesbury school has been told it ‘requires improvement’ following an Ofsted inspection.
Haydon Abbey School was given the same grading as in its previous inspection, with several troublesome areas highlighted such as pupils’ behaviour and the progress of able-bodied students.
However, the headteacher said the school was ‘very encouraged’ by the report, which did pinpoint some strengths.
Judith Ejdowski said: “The inspectors have recognised the many strengths and improvements we have already made over the last couple of years and we will continue to build on this success in time for their next visit.”
Inspectors said the standard of pupils’ work, particularly in writing, is not high enough, with students in Year 3 having significant ground to make up. It also said teaching requires improvement.
There were some good points for the school, though. Ofsted said the leadership team had taken firm action to improve pupils’ progress and that teaching is improving. It added that several year groups are starting to make progress and that there is good provision for children in nursery and reception.
Ms Ejdowski said: “I would like to thank the staff and parents for their continued support of the school.”
