Opinions on whether a primary and nursery school should merge are being sought in a new consultation.
John Hampden primary school and nursery school both currently share a headteacher and governing body.
However, both schools manage separate budgets and report to Ofsted separately.
The move proposed by Oxfordshire County Council would see the introduction of a single budget and an effective legal closure of the nursery school.
The nursery classes would instead be integrated into the primary school and it is hoped the move will help to better manage resources.
School organisation officer, Diane Cameron, said: “The advantage is they don’t have to run two separate establishments.
“There seems a general feeling that there’s an advantage to doing this.
“Really it’s a streamlining of the management. It means being a bit more flexible about where the money goes.
“On the ground it won’t make any difference at all to kids.”
The public consultation on the merger will run until January 28 and can be responded to via http://myconsultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk and by clicking on the relevant proposal.
Responses can also be sent to nurseriesmerger-manager@myconsultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk
Following the consultation the cabinet or member will consider whether to post a statutory notice.
If so this period offers a further six weeks for views until a final decision is taken, which would be likely to occur in May/June 2013.
