Families have been snapping up the chance to get their names on a new community-funded pavilion.
More than £1,500 has so far been raised by Mursley’s Buy A Brick campaign, which aims to furnish one of the two rooms in the new pavilion after it opens next month.
The bricks cost £5 each and 3,000 have gone on sale. Anyone buying a brick will have their name recorded on a roll of honour in the pavilion’s foyer.
Volunteer Alex Gallon said: “The atmosphere is really buzzing. We are getting a lot of interest by families, who are buying four or five bricks at a time so their children can also have their names on the board and be part of it.”
Money to pay for the new sports changing facilities has already been found through funding from Aylesbury Vale District Council’s Community Chest and groups such as Sport England.
The Buy A Brick appeal will furnish the community room, which will be used by schools and for village social functions.
The former pavilion at the site on Station Road was built 50 years ago by volunteers.
It was demolished in August to make way for the improved site, which saw its scaffolding removed two weeks ago ahead of next month’s opening.
Once enough money has been raised to furnish the community room, the businesses and individuals who contributed will be asked how they would like it decorated.
Mr Gallon, who runs Potash Nursery in Drayton Parslow, decided to volunteer with the project as a way of thanking the friends he has made in the area.
He said: “When we came here about 10 years ago the people of Mursley were so kind and generous to us that I wanted to give something back.”
