Thame United’s manager said it was back to the ‘real business’ ahead of this Saturday’s league trip to Holyport (kick-off 3pm) after watching his side slip out of the league cup on Tuesday night.
United were beaten 3-1 by Highworth Town in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup but boss Mark West said he used the tie to try out some of the reserves.
“We probably didn’t want to be in the cup. Obviously we wanted to win the game but it was more for experience,” he said.
“We had four games before that were of a really high tempo and it’s cost us a few players.”
The defeat brought an end to Thame’s eight-game unbeaten streak with Calvin Evans grabbing United’s only goal of the game.
In United’s previous match on Saturday they beat Rotherfield 2-0 in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup through a Niall Hodgkins goal and an own goal.
Meanwhile, Thame Boys racked up a record score as they beat Banbury United 13-0 at the ASM Stadium in the Oxfordshire Cup.
United ran riot in the second half scoring 10 goals and now face Henley Town in the next round.
