Illicit literature ‘to quicken the pulse and darken the soul’ which has been banned somewhere at some point is being displayed in the window of Oxfam books Thame.
Writings from the likes of Orwell, Salinger, Steinbeck and Darwin, which have been banned for reasons ranging from social and political to sexual and religious grounds, are on show at the Cornmarket store. The display began yesterday (Thursday October 11) and is running for a week.
Information on why the books were banned is available and all the books are on sale.
A similar display was done last year and store manager Dick Jennens said people had found it ‘fascinating’.
He said: “It really created a bit of a stir. People think ‘why did that get banned?’”
