Two siblings from Thame have done the nation proud representing the UK in the European Youth Chess Championships in Prague.
Chantelle and James Foster beat off stiff competition, with a record 1,173 players from 46 countries taking part.
Chantelle, who became the British Under 16 Girls’ Chess Champion earlier in the summer, said: “I found the opposition tough in this tournament, but was especially pleased with my wins against opponents from Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Overall, I was satisfied with my three wins and a draw.”
An equally delighted James was pleased with his performance, having achieved two wins and four draws earning him 15 extra international rating points.
They both played nine games of chess on nine consecutive days with each game lasting from four to five hours.
The pair will now focus on improving their ratings in open tournaments against adult opposition.
Chantelle is a student at Aylesbury High School and James is a former pupil of Aylesbury Grammar.
