Aylesbury muscle man Dan Luckett has proved he is one of the strongest men in the country by winning the British Powerlifting Championships.
The 24 year old, who lives in Watermead, admits he ‘fell’ into the sport after initially doing weight training to ‘look good and lead a more healthy lifestyle’.
Now, after only taking the sport seriously for a year, Luckett is the British mens open champion and new record holder after a squat of 327.5 kilos.
The win has filled modest Luckett full of confidence and he now aims to take on the world’s best at another tournament next week.
He said: “I kind of just fell into the sport really to be honest.
“I have been training at Bodyflex Gym (Aylesbury) for a while but only started taking powerlifting seriously in the last year or so.
“It’s all a bit of a shock really, I didn’t think I would be good at it, but by the looks of it I am.”
Powerlifting is a strength sport which resembles Olympic weightlifting, as both disciplines involve lifting weights in three attempts.
Luckett can now underline his growing reputation when he goes up against the likes of multiple world record holder and legend of the sport Andy Bolton at the UK International – equivalent to a World Championships – on September 1.
Luckett, who trains five or six times every week, said: “I have to thank Tony Montalbano at Bodyflex as he has been great for me and put in a lot of time and effort with my training and diet.
“I also have to thank my family and girlfriend Emily.
“They have been really supportive and Emily has to put up with a lot!”
