The 2012 Archery GB National Series Finals will be hosted by the County of Oxfordshire Archery Society, and will take place on Sunday August 26 on Merton Fields, Christ Church Meadow, Oxford.
Britain’s best archers will compete for the country’s biggest prize in front of a backdrop of Christchurch Cathedral and the historic Colleges.
The Archery GB National Series consists of four tournaments held over the course of the summer, culminating in the battle for gold among the top four archers in each category: Ladies Recurve, Ladies Compound, Gents Recurve and Gents Compound.
Among the Recurves will be GB archer Larry Godfrey, who has made it into the last 16 in the Olympic archery event, as well as other Team GB members – Olympic archers Alison Williamson and Simon Terry in the Recurve categories; and Adam Ravenscroft, Liam Grimwood and Andrea Gales in the Compound categories.
In the grand final, the compound archers will shoot 15 arrows at a target 50m away in a head-to-head, the recurves will shoot up to 5 sets with 3 arrows each at 70m. The winning archers will be awarded prize money of over £5,000.
The venue, provided by kind permission of Christ Church Cathedral School, is situated in the very heart of historical Oxford, surrounded by Christ Church, Corpus Christi and Merton Colleges, and within a five-minute walk of Oxford’s High Street, Bodleian Library, pedestrian shopping area, and the other historic Colleges. The hosting of National Series Finals has been supported by Oxford City Council and the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership.
Day tickets for entry to the grandstand are available for £8 each online at www.oxford-archers.org, and next to the main competition area, a free picnic and viewing area for the public with an archery have-a-go will be available.
