While Jessica Ennis and co have been doing Britain proud, Vale of Aylesbury’s Julia Austin and Heather Fallaize have been showing age is no barrier to medal glory on the track.
Julia and Heather competed in the Eastern Veterans Athletic Club’s Outdoor Championships last week.
Julia was crowned the new Veteran 45 champion for both 800m and 1,500m with times of 2:42:8 and 5:31:4 respectively, leading from the front in both events. All age categories ran together and while Julia was just pipped at the post in the 1,500m, the winner was from a different category.
Heather finished second in the same events for the V50 category. Her times were 3:05:2 and 6:20:9.
A VoAAC spokesman said: “Congrats to both ladies, who are an important part of the club’s Southern Athletics League team.”
